Big 12 Notebook: April 11, 2025

Kansas sits alone atop the Big 12 with a 9-3 record, with West Virginia a game behind at 7-3. Four teams are tied for third place at 8-4: Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas State, and TCU.

The Big 12 has two of the top seven highest on-base percentages in college baseball with Kerrington Cross of Cincinnati (sixth at.563) and Brady Ballinger of Kansas (seventh at .562).

League Notes

Arizona

Arizona is a team of offensive streaks right now. The Wildcats longest active hit streak leading into this weekend's action belongs to Tommy Splaine, who has hit safely in each of his last six games. Andrew Cain and Adonys Guzman both enter the weekend with four-game hit streaks.

Garen Caulfield has been automatic for Arizona as of late, boasting a 21-game on-base streak that is the second longest active streak on the team. The longest active on-base streak of 23 games belongs to Brendan Summerhill, who is currently sidelined due to injury. During his 21-game on-base streak, Caulfield has hit .312 with 25 base hits, 14 runs, 20 RBI, and 14 walks leading to a .408 on-base percentage.

Kansas

Kansas has displayed one of the best offenses in the country throughout this season. The Jayhawks lead the Big 12 in walks (tied for third nationally), home runs (tied for fourth nationally), runs (tied for eighth nationally), slugging percentage (ninth nationally), hits, runs per game, on-base percentage, and total bases.

Kansas has hit 74 home runs this season and is one shy of tying the program record of 75 set in 2006 and matched in 2023. Twelve different Jayhawks have hit a home run this season. There have been 41 home runs hit at Hoglund Ballpark and 33 hit on the road this year.

Oklahoma State

The Cowboys duo of Harrison Bodendorf and Sean Youngerman earned Big 12 honors in Oklahoma State's series win against Kansas State. Bodendorf earned the win in the series opener with a career-high 12 strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Youngerman pitched eight scoreless innings during the series-clinching win in just his second start this season. Youngerman racked up a career-high 11 strikeouts against the Wildcats, an offense that ranked in the top 25 nationally in slugging percentage entering the series.

TCU

TCU ace Tommy LaPour has a 2.62 ERA which leads the Big 12. LaPour opened the series last weekend against BYU pitching a career-high seven innings, all of them hitless. BYU did get an infield hit, but the Horned Frogs won the opener 8-0. Sawyer Strosnider raised his average to .390 on Tuesday night, which ranks eighth in the Big 12 and sixth nationally among NCAA freshmen. Chase Brunson has reached base safely in all 33 games he has played this season. Against BYU last weekend, Jack Arthur hit TCU's first pinch-hit home run since 2023.

Utah

Utah enters the weekend on a seven-game slide after being swept in three games at West Virginia. Austen Roellig hit .462 in the series against the Mountaineers with two doubles. Colter McAnelly gave the Utes 7 1/3 innings in his start in the series opener. Shortstop Core Jackson continues to lead the Utah offense with team bests in a .398 batting average, 11 doubles, seven home runs, 26 RBI, and 34 runs scored.
