My pick would be Jake Mangum out of Mississippi State, but that's up to debate. He was talented, but so was JJ Bleday, Dansby Swanson, Adley Rutschman, the list goes on...
The best baseball player of the century is Michael Nelson Trout.Â
He is an eight-time MLB All-Star, three-time American League Most Valuable Player, and is an eight-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award. This achievement is way too high to undermine.
He once said in an interview, "I used to get made fun of in the minor leagues. I'd be 0 for 2, and then in my last at-bat I'd hit a chopper that wouldn't even reach the shortstop, and I'd get a hit out of it. The guys would be all over me, but a hit's a hit. I'll take 3,000 of 'em." source: "https://sportsquotes.us/baseball"
What I learned from this is - never care what people say. Just keep doing your thing and you will flourish.
Totally agree with you. Rutschman can definitely be the future of the Orioles both behind the plate and at the plate. Like you said, he's probably one of the best hitting catchers we've seen in recent years.
Great question. Jake Mangum is a great pick. He was an excellent college baseball player and had a huge impact on his program.
As far a raw talent, Adley Rutschman is my answer. He is absurdly talented. He has power and can hit for average from both sides and is an excellent defensive catcher.

The best of the century for me is Roger Maris. Maintaining a record from 1961 to 1998, that is for 37 years is not an easy job.
He once said, "Maybe I'm not a great man but I damn well want to break the record."
This shows his humility. Truly, a great player he was.
